Restalyne (Restylane) is one of the more popular facial fillers used for the correction of facial creases, especially the nasolabial folds, and also for lip augmentation (lip filling).

Take a look at yourself in the mirror. Observe the line that runs from the side of the nostril on each side to the corner of the mouth. This is referred to as the nasolabial fold. This is also called the parentheses. In a young person the folds are very shallow and may barely be noticeable. Not so in the older person. With age and gravity, the cheek pads enlarge and become heavier, and drag down the skin in an attempt to meet the upper lip. Thus the nasolabial fold become deeper, to the extent it may be referred to as the nasolabial groove. With age, the nasolabial fold continues past the corner of the mouth to meet the chin. This is known as a marionette line, a feature very common in marionettes, and in the older person.

Look at your nasolabial folds. Put your fingers on each cheek pad and pull the cheeks toward your ears. Notice how the nasolabial folds disappear and you look instantly younger. This is how fillers are supposed to work, by filling up the nasolabial folds so you look younger.

Nasolabial fold before restylane

Nasolabial fold after restylane

The nasolabial fold as well as the marionette line can be easily treated with Restalyne injections. Restalyne (more correctly called Restylane) is a cross-linked hyaluronic acid filler safe and suitable for facial filler injections. The cross-linkage allows Restalyne to stay in the site of injection for up to 6 months before being completely absorbed.

Restalyne is given as a lunchtime injection as it is considered a very short simple procedure which only takes a couple of hours, and the patient can go back to work after that.

The skin over the nasolabial fold is anesthesised either by an application of local anesthetic gel under occlusion with a plastic wrap for one hour or by injecting some Xylocaine into the regional sensory nerve, which works within 3 minutes. Restalyne in the pre-filled 1ml syringe is injected initially under the skin in the hollow next to the nostril to fill up this space. Then the injection is continued in a linear manner downward toward the corner of the mouth, filling up the nasolabial fold. The marionette line is also treated if present. After enough of Restalyne is injected, the needle is withdrawn and the gel pressed and massaged to smoothen the imperfections. The entire process of injection takes between 1/2 and 1 hour, depending on the depth of the nasolabial fold.

Following this procedure you will be going back to work, looking years younger. Follow up is usually 4 days to a week after, when top-ups may be given to correct any residual defect. The injected Restalyne stays where it is for up to 6 months, following which you will normally want to maintain your newly acquired youth by going back to your doctor for a repeat Restalyne injection.

Restalyne more correctly known as Restylane is made of hyaluronic acid. In the body hyaluronic acid occurs naturally and exists to provide volume and some fullness to the skin, and this results in the skin feeling rather turgid. This volume, fullness and turgidity of the skin is lost as one ages. Age, together with the effects of gravity, prolonged contraction of muscles (that initially cause dynamic or temporary wrinkles of the skin), muscle laxity, the effects of smoking, starvation, poor nutrition, late nights, drinking and the like lead to the production of static wrinkles, creases, and deep folds and grooves in the skin. Similarly certain prolonged inflammatory processes in the skin tends to cause depressed scars in the skin such as is seen in chickenpox scars and acne scars. These scars are tiny sunken pits tethered by fibrous tissue from the floor of the scar to the underlying connective tissue.

Thus restalyne fulfils one particular need in general – that of restoration of volume of the skin.

The common (and uncommon) uses for Restalyne injections and other facial fillers are listed below:

Restalyne beautiful face

Filling of forehead lines or creases
Filling of persistent frown lines
Filling of crows feet lateral to the eyes
Filling of nasolabial folds
Filling of marionette lines
Reshaping of the nose
Lip filling (lip augmentation)
Augmentation of the cheeks in people with sunken cheeks
Augmentation of the chin in people with small chins
Enlargement of earlobes
Filling of the hollows between the eyebags and the cheek bone
Enlargement of the breasts
Filling of depressed scars (acne scars, chickenpox scars, post traumatic or operative scars)

However this list is not exhaustive, and with time it is envisaged that further and more uses will be found for Restalyne.

Restalyne (more correctly known as Restylane) is a modified form of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body which provides volume and fullness to the skin. Modification or stabilization of this hyaluronic acid allows the Restalyne to last longer in the body before it is absorbed.

Restalyne is a very safe product to use. More than a million procedures have been done around the world using Restalyne, and very few reactions have been reported. Although Restalyne had been in use widely in Europe countries since the 1990s, it has only been in 2003 that the FDA, after extensive studies, approved it for use as a facial filler in the United States. As Restalyne is made from non-animal sources it does not require allergy testing before injection. Upon injection into the skin, the following side effects may be encountered in some cases in a minimal manner: mild swelling, mild bruising, itchiness, redness and pain or tenderness. These may last a few hours to a few days. It is rare for these minimal side effects to last longer than this. Also, those persons who have Restalyne injections into the lips for lip enlargement or contouring may have some lip swelling after injection, primarily because of handling and manipulation of the lips during injection. This may also last a few hours to a couple of days.

Because Restalyne is injected into the skin, persons who are on medication to thin the blood or reduce clottability of the blood, such as warfarin, aspirin, Plavix, Ticlid, vitamin E, or anti-inflammatory agents such as ibuprofen, are advised to stop these for a week before their Restylane procedure. This reduces the risk of bleeding or bruising in the injection site. Similarly persons at higher risk of delayed clotting such as hemophiliacs are advised to be very cautious when undergoing any surgical procedure.

Sometimes patients with a history of frequent cold sores (herpes labialis or herpes type 1) may have an attack precipitated by procedures done around the lips such as lip filling with fillers. It may be advisable for such persons to have prophylactic acyclovir before undergoing such procedures.

As with every procedure or medication, Restalyne is advised to be used with caution in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Persons with a history of keloid or excessive scar formation are also advised to exercise caution. Similarly, those who are going through laser treatment or chemical peels immediately after or before Restalyne injections are advised that there may be an increased chance of inflammation around the injection site.

See your Restalyne doctor before you plan to undergo any Restalyne injections.

Ever considered a lip injection with a hyaluronic acid filler such as Restalyne to achieve sexier, fuller, bigger lips? Something along the lines of Angelina Jolie’s lips, perhaps? Although Angelina Jolie’s lips are known to be inherited (take a look at her father, actor Jon Voight), you can achieve very similar results using lip injections.

It is a well-known fact that a set of fuller, redder, more luscious lips turn men on faster than dull, thin lips which may give the impression that the owner of the lips is a totally cold conservative shrew.

A very well-known brand of hyaluronic acid filler is Restalyne (also more properly known as Restylane or Restalyn. Please take note that a hyaluronic acid filler is not a collagen filler. A collagen filler is made of collagen sourced from either humans or cows. Although collagen is part of the normal skin support structure there is a chance of allergic reactions by virtue of its origins, and as such allergy tests are normally advised before you use a collagen filler. These fillers are frequently being replaced by non-animal derived fillers such as Restalyne.

Restalyne (Restylane or Restalyn) is a NASHA which stands for Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural complex sugar and forms an essential component of the connective tissue of the skin, absorbing water and giving the skin volume and turgidity. The hyaluronic acid of Restalyne is derived from non-animal sources, and is stabilized to allow it to last longer in the body (about 6 months). Allergy reactions to Restalyne are extremely rare.

Because lip augmentation is technically a more difficult and more creative procedure than the usual facial fillers injection for face wrinkles such as for your nasolabial fold, it is important for you to go to a qualified experienced doctor who can show you past examples of his work.

A lip injection is typically described as a lunchtime procedure in an esthetic medical center, taking usually a maximum of an hour or so. There is usually a preliminary consultation with your Restylane doctor to determine if you are a suitable candidate for lip injection, and whether the targeted end result is to your expectations.

The lip injection procedure is done under local anesthesia, the most common of which is a local anesthetic nerve block, in order to achieve a comfortable painless visit. Usually between 1 to 2 1ml prefilled Restalyne syringes are utilised in this procedure. The lip injection usually starts from the corners of the lips, working its way to the center. Two major objectives are usually targeted, an increase in the volume of the lips, and a defining of the lip margin.

Either the upper lip or lower lip, or both, may be injected in the same procedure. The lips are massaged and manipulated during and after the injection to achieve an ideal shape. The massaging itself may contribute slightly to a temporary increase in volume of the lips which will go down within a week. Follow up is usually after a week to determine if the ideal result is achieved, and for topping up of the filler if necessary to correct any leftover defects.

The cost of the Restalyne or Restylane lip injection procedure? Variable. It can vary from as low as $400 to $2000 depending on the center and the location.

How long does your Restalyne (Restylane) injection last? Usually up to about 6 months. After this you can elect to retain your original lip volume or you can go back to your Restalyne doctor to have a refill of your lip injection to maintain the sexy bigger lips you had for the previous 6 months.

Sexier, bigger lips. That’s the dream of a lot of ladies, all the way from young to old. If only there were a way to get your lips bigger and sexier. You would paint them a luscious red and attract the attention of every man in every room that you enter. No hot-blooded man would think of anything else but your lips and the way you talk and smile at them. Man, you could excite even the most senile octogenerians in the room! Think of it. A fantasy?

Well… It is a fantasy no more. There is a new FDA-approved injectable hyaluronic acid preparation in the market called Restalyne or Restylane that is meant for creating bigger lips so you will have them as big and sexy as Angelina Jolie’s or supermodel Karolina Kurkova’s! This lip filler is practically guaranteed not to contain any animal protein. Therefore there is no need to have allergy tests before injections. Also Restylane injections will last at least 6 months when injected into the lips.

restalyne for bigger lips like Angelina Jolie

Go look for an established experienced esthetic practitioner well-versed with lip injections, who may either be an internal physician, dermatologist or plastic cosmetic surgeon. Somebody recommended by your friends and colleagues based on personal experience will be better than picking one off the yellow pages. Make sure he shows you pictures of his past cases of lip injections with lip fillers. Get him to check on you and give you good advice for pre, during, and post-procedural precautions, including potential side effects. Get him to quote you a price you are happy with, before you sign up for this procedure. Some doctors may even be able to arrange financing for you to cover your medical bill!

The procedure should last no more than one or two hours. The doctor will usually give you a local anesthetic injection to numb the lips. As this procedure involves a bit of handling and manipulation of the lips, be aware that there may be some post-procedural swelling. So avoid appointments for the next several days till you see your doctor a week after your initial Restalyne injection for your follow-up topping-up-if-necessary lip injection.

Restalyne or Restalyn (also known as Restylane) is a NASHA (non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid). Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body and does not excite any allergic reaction when injected into the skin of the human body. Stabilization of the hyaluronic acid in Restalyne by a process of cross-linkage allows the face wrinkle filler gel to last longer in the human body than the usual few days before degradation. Restalyne lasts approximately 6 months in the human body before it is ultimately broken down.
The most popular usage for Restalyne is in the procedure of lip filling or lip injections. Doubtless you will have seen the popularity of sexy bigger lips such as evidenced by Angelina Jolie’s lips. Although not everybody will look better with bigger lips, the majority of persons with thin lips will definitely look improved with some volume in the lips. Aside from creating bigger lips or plumper lips, Restalyne is used also in wrinkle treatments on the face in the form of facial fillers, such as in the treatment of the nasolabial fold.

So how much does Restylane cost? This depends on various factors, such as the degree of difficulty of the procedure, how much the doctor values his skill, the location of the practice (obviously a Beverley Hills practice will charge more than downtown Detroit), the country of practice (plastic surgery procedures and minimally-invasive esthetic procedures such as filler injections do cost so much less in Asian countries, although the skill level of the practitioners is comparable), and the amount of Restylane that is needed for the procedure.
The price of Restylane is about $300 to $800 per 1ml syringe. Most patients need 1 – 2 syringes per treatment, especially for lip injections. Larger volumes are needed for other procedures such as nasolabial fold correction, or cheek augmentation or chin augmentation. This is usually performed in a single session, but some patients may need a touch up a few weeks later for optimum benefit.
As these procedures are essentially cosmetic procedures, the cost of the Restylane injections is usually not covered by insurance. Cosmetic cost is higher than other procedural costs. However the use of the credit card (swipe now, pay later) is ever popular, and for those without credit facilities, financing is often easy to arrange, and some esthetic centers do have such arrangements. Ask your Restalyne esthetic doctor for some guidance in financing procedures if the Restylane cost is of concern.

Cheek augmentation, or cheek lift is the process by which the volume of the cheeks of the face is restored. This process can be achieved through surgery or by non-surgical means. Surgery is often the treatment of last resort, as not many people want to go through the trauma and risks of an operation, especially one that needs a general anesthetic.

With age and the excesses of good living, combined with exposure to the sun, or sometimes with constant, regular exercise in an effort to burn off fat and develop muscle, the volume of the cheeks has a tendency to shrink. Full cheeks are the epitome of youth, but over time, the fullness goes due to a combination of fat loss from the cheeks as well as muscular shrinkage and slackening with age. Thus the once full-cheeked angel is replaced by a gaunt, hollow-cheeked individual, making a person look twice her or his age.

This hollow-cheeked picture of a person’s face is also a characteristic seen in individuals with AIDS, due to the overall facial wasting with loss of fat and supporting tissue.

There is hope for this. Once the only solution was to have a face-lift, where the skin and subcutaneous tissue over the cheeks were pulled back surgically and pinned behind the ear to give a taut looking cheek lift resulting in what was hoped to be a younger-looking person. Unfortunately the face looked rather tight and the cheeks flattened, and the person did end up not looking very much like what she did before. Then came mini facelifts in the form of thread or contour lifts where a thread was inserted through a small hole in the scalp of the temple and threaded under the skin over the cheek bones and back again to the hole, and when the thread was tightened, the whole cheek was lifted up. This looked a bit better, but was still rather traumatic to the person.

Now what is offered is the introduction of facial fillers such as Restalyne (offically known as restylane), which is pumped into the skin of the cheeks in a special way to replace the lost volume. In skilled hands this cheek augmentation or cheek lift results in very natural-looking volume-restored cheeks, and allows the long-suffering person to maintain her looks for at least 6 months. After the 6 months, the Restalyne is reabsorbed into the body, and it is time for a repeat of the cheek lift.
